Iran’s Hameden named Asian Capital of Tourism for 2024
TEHRAN - The prestigious title of Asian Capital of Tourism for the year 2024 has been bestowed upon the city of Hamedan by the Asian Mayors Forum (AMF).
This significant declaration, designating Hameden as the focal point for tourism in Asia, was made on Wednesday by the Asian Mayors Forum (AMF), an international non-governmental organization committed to enhancing relations and collaboration among mayors and city managers across Asia.
Simultaneously, Hameden Mayor Masoud Hosseini, during a press conference, shared the news and acknowledged the commendable efforts of the Hamedan City Council in showcasing the city's tourism potential to the global audience.
He commended the Municipal Tourism Headquarters for its dedicated work in promoting urban tourism, emphasizing the significant strides it has taken to highlight Hamedan's tourism potential.
Expressing optimism, Hosseini conveyed his hope that through the close partnership between Hamedan's municipality and the AMF, the city would be able to showcase its tourism capacities more effectively than ever before.
Hamedan, also known as Ecbatana in classical times, was once one of the most important cities in the ancient world. It boasts a wealth of tourist attractions. Notable landmarks include the Ali-Sadr Cave, Tomb of Abu Ali Sina, Ganjnameh Ancient Inscriptions, and Alaviyan Dome, promising a rewarding experience for visitors.
Sprawling on a high plain, Hamedan was initially urbanized by the Medes, Assyrians, Persians, and Parthians. It may no longer be the legendary metropolis it once was, but it still boasts all the culture you'd expect from a location with such a long history.
In addition to naming Hamedan as the Asian Capital of Tourism, the AMF also announced on Wednesday that the Iranian southern city of Shiraz has been designated as the Asian Capital of Environment for the year 2024.
